Even as a young boy, Joseph was the most creative and imaginative kid around. He would take a simple game, or a simple toy, and create an idea that was beyond others his age. When it came to paper and a pencil, his imagination was even more apparent. As he grew, he was always drawing, whether it was a full picture or a little scribble on the side of his school book or homework. He met new friends whose parents were artistic and he would sit near them and watch intently. He honed his artistic ability doing anything from a facial structure to graffiti. Sometimes he would spend hours just practicing different techniques in order to become a better artist. During Joseph's early teen years, his family rented a room to a young man who also was artistic. Joseph then began to discover that he had real skills in painting and sketching, and did what he could to improve his techniques.
As Joseph learned from this new member of the household, his sketches became more detailed. He learned what to look for and how to translate what he saw to paper. During his short attendance at Elk Grove High School in Elk Grove, CA he took an art class. To this day, he believes his teacher did not like him because he would complete an art assignment at the last minute and it would be one of the best in the class. Although he didn't win the heart of the teacher, he learned and progressed by using the tools and skills that he learned in class. Near the end of his sophomore year he had completed several art projects and progressed in his skills tremendously.
During the summer he was introduced to graphic design. Entering his junior year, he attended a graphic design class that the high school offered. He started off a little rough because he was still new to the graphic design side of the art scene but as the year progressed, he moved to the top of his class. He put in many hours at the school lab and at home on projects his teacher would assign. He bought magazines and books and even took online tutorials to teach himself to become a graphic design artist. He fell in love with being able to use something he already uses in everyday life to create art. However, his focus on art caused his grades in other classes to slide and resulted in a transfer to a different school.
Because of the change, Joseph felt he needed to set aside his art dream so he could focus on graduation from high school. But then, the biggest change in his life happened. Late 2009, his family decided to move to Texas. Joseph was excited for the new opportunities that he would encounter but sad about leaving his friends and the only place he had lived for 17 years.
Joseph and his family arrived in Texas just before Christmas, 2009, in the middle of his Senior year. He registered for classes at the local high school, Seven Lakes High School, and was thrilled to find that they offered graphic design as a double credit for technology and art. Because of the differing State educational requirements, and problems with class credit transfers, he was required to take Beginning Graphic Design. He was far ahead of the rest of the class and the teacher quickly recognized it. Joseph would finish every project with skills far beyond his teachers expectations for the current class, and would usually end up being bored because he had nothing else to work on. Even though he didn't learn much from the class itself, he utilized the time to advance his passion for art and his skill level for graphic design.
During this time, Joseph discovered a second passion - cars and racing. He met new friends that were also part of this world so it made it easier to progress into that scene. He learned the ropes when it came to racing and is still learning to this day about how to really handle a car, as well as the various parts, specs, etc. of specific vehicles. He doesn't know everything about cars but he does love being around them and feeling the raw power of a good motor.
To integrate both passions, he wants to take his art skill and combine it with the car world. He is taking the steps to start a business and wants to work towards being a graphic designer for the car enthusiast world. It may take time for him to really become the artist and designer he wants to be but, by starting young, he hopes to make a difference later on in his life.
